Russians prefer paying fines than being taken to court
Posted on Monday, September 23, 2002

It is suggested that if a vessel engaged in fishing within the Norwegian EEZ is found to break the regulations, she should not be arrested and taken to a Norwegian port, but allowed to continue fishing. Depending on the situation, the vessel’s captain will have to pay a cash fine immediately or, in more serious cases, the shipowner will have to appear in court.

The bilateral meeting will show whether the Norwegians agree to such a way of solving the problem.
