Scientific trade council in Murmansk
Posted on Thursday, July 4, 2002

4 of July the extended session of scientific trade council took place in the Polar Institute in Murmansk
The results of fishing in Barents Sea in the first half of the year was in the focus. Total catch amounts to 575 thousands metric tons, including 105 thousand ton of cod, 11,7 thousand ton haddock, 229 thousand ton capelin and 141 thousand ton blue whiting.

The fishing in general is quite good, but catch of some species could be better. In the particular there is a concern about taking the quota of Greenland halibut and mackerel.

This year it's registered abnormally worm water for the last 40 years in the Norwegian Sea. In this regards he traditional catching fields of mackerel have changed. From 10th to 24th of July the specialists of the PINRO will use flying laboratory "Arcitc" in order to help the captains of fishing vessels to find this specie.

It's decided to create a working group that will solve the problem of taking the quotas of Greenland halibut and mackerel in an operative order.
