Foreigners Allowed at Russian Fish Quota Auctions

For the first time this year, the Interdepartmental Commission of Auction Sales of Quotas for Marine Biological Resources has permitted foreign buyers to participate, - according to Russia’s Ministry of Economic Development.

 

Quotas for catching Cod, Greenland Halibut, Alaska Pollock, Crab, Squid and other species will be sold on auction September 27th, 2002. As earlier reported, sales revenue from the previous 11 quota auctions held this year, exceeded 10.638 billion roubles (ab. USD 337 mill) which is 231 per cent over the initial price.
