Operation “Putina” is finished

As BarentsNews.com earlier informed have Arctic Regional Administration of Federal Frontier Service of Russian Federation together with representatives of Murmanrybvod (fishery control organization) and police department of Murmansk region realized a wide-ranging operation “Putina” in July 2002.

The main aim of this operation was to prevent violations in area of coastal and oceanic fishery, and also amateur fishing.
In this operation 8 coastguard-patrol vessels, 3 coastguard supply ships, and 12 patrol boats of “Skate”-class were involved. During the operation coastguards have inspected approximately 40 Russian and 6 foreign vessels inside the Russian Economical Zone.
Furthermore, coastguards in cooperation with officers from The Department of Economical Crime Investigation with respect to bio resources and fishery have made 3 raids on AN-26 airplane and 10 raids on KA-27 helicopter along the coast of Barents Sea and White Sea.
As a result of the operation, more then 30 juridical and private bodies have been punished, and it were prepared documents to confiscate 50 metric tons of non-reported fish products for a total amount of 300 thousand RUB (app. USD 10 thousand).
Most common violations were as follows:
amateur fishing without an appropriate license, regulation breaches in connection with passing of control points and manipulation of fishery information committed by captains of Russian vessels.
