Economical results of fish industry from the first half year

The administration of Murmansk Region has completed the analysis of social-economical situation in the region in the first half of the year 2002.

Fish industry is one of the most important sectors of economics of Kola area. In accordance to the report made by the Government of Murmansk Region, the total catch of fish during last half year accounts to 103.8 percent compared to last year, amount of produced fish eatables (including canned fish) – 97.8 percent.
Among leading fishing and fish-processing enterprises following companies have increased their production of fish eatables: “Murmansk Trawl Fleet” (105.2%), “North-West F.K” (108.7%), “Protein” (192.4%).
A significant part of fish output goes to export. The share of export in the total volume of commodity goods as follows: “Murmansk Trawl Fleet” (including daughter enterprises) – 58.4 percent, “Sevrybholodflot” – 72.2 percent, “Murmanrybprom” – 19.5 percent.
On the territory of Murmansk Fishing Port, more particularly on the area rented by the fish-processing plant “Murmansk fishing plant”, a construction of fish factory called “Gigante - Murmansk” still going on.
The project called “Total regional program of Murmansk region concerning development of fishery shipbuilding, support to infrastructure of costal communities of Kola peninsula and costal fish-processing enterprises” is been aged.
First of all, this program supposes the building of vessels for costal-sea fishery. A part of these vessels will be built at “Nerpa” plant.
Foreign investments at the rate of 6 billions USD have been done in the region in the first quarter of the year. It makes 194% compared with last year. The amount of 4.8 billions USD was dedicated to the fish industry.
The largest part of investments was contributed by Norway (66%) and Denmark (17.7%).
