Will haddock quota remain unutilized?
Posted on Thursday, July 25, 2002

Such a distressing conclusion can be a result of resolution no. 1702-p made by Russian government.

According to this document, quotas allocated to catch of cod and haddock in Exclusive Russian Economical Zone has to be taken out by small coastal fleet. However the water area where big sized haddock (up to 55 cm) is expected, reaches 200 miles from the coast. It is impossible for small vessels to get there.

Therefore on the last meeting of the Open Fishery Council, it was decided to make necessary correction in the mentioned government document. A proposal was sent from Murmansk region, but unfortunately still remains unanswered.
