Prospecting and exploration of oil and gas fields
Posted on Tuesday, August 26, 2003

The new Security Rules for Prospecting and Exploration of Oil and Gas Fields on the Continental Shelf was approved by the Statement of the Federal Mining and Industrial Supervisory Office of 5 June 2003 No. 58 (the “Rules”).

The Rules are obligatory for all companies involved with prospecting and exploration of oil and gas fields as well as with developing projects, technologies and equipment for such activities.

The Rules covers both stationary structures (platforms) and floating objects, including boring vessels, and provide detailed technical regulation for designing and construction of platforms, their operation, construction of oil and gas boring wells, pipelines, exploration of fields and liquidation or conservation of boring wells.

It should be noted that projects for prospecting and exploration of oil and gas fields should be agreed with state supervisory bodies and in order to perform prospecting and exploration works it is necessary to obtain relevant licences from the Federal Mining and Industrial Supervisory Office.
