Posted on Wednesday, July 10, 2002

The administration of Murmansk region doesn’t want an execution of so called Olympic system regarding the catch of herring and ask The State Fishery Committee of Russian Federation to postpone the final decision to august.

The proposal to execute the “Olympic” fishing in connection with catch of Atlantic herring was posed to the Fishery Committee by VNIRU (ALL-UNION SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF SEA FISHERIES AND OCEANOGRAPHY). Moscow requested comments from all interested regions and got following answers.

Republic of Karelia, Leningrad and Murmansk region will wait to the end of august. They still believe that it is possible to realize originally quota plans without any operative interference. The representatives of Archangelsk region and West basin expressed their complete disagreement with the proposal from the scientists.
