Ecology, oil and gas issues high on Putin’s agenda in Norway
Posted on Monday, November 11, 2002

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrives in Norway November 12.

Tuesday morning he is to have talks with German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and later to meet with Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik.

Bondevik looks forward to the meeting to discuss the opportunities for developing transport infrastructure along the Russian and Norwegian coasts, as well as new projects in oil and gas production.

Cooperation on the regional level with the Russian northwest is a special focus of the visit. For this purpose, governors of the Murmansk of Arkhangelsk regions will arrive in Oslo together with Putin.

Norwegian Environmental Minister B?rge Brende places high expectations on the talks with Murmansk region’s governor Yuri Yevdokimov, which he expressed in his recent letter, having pointed to the growing importance of close cooperation on environmental problems between the neighbour states.
